Soviet Naval Brigade
With much of the Soviet Baltic and Black Sea Fleets stuck in harbour by the German advance, many of the sailors moved ashore and served as desperately needed riflemen. They quickly became known as the ‘black death’ due to their distinctive black or dark blue naval uniforms - with caps and striped shirts.
