Sent to bolster their beleaguered Italian allies facing the combined forces of the British Commonwealth in North Africa, the Deutsches Afrika Korps proved a dangerous opponent. Commanded by the legendary Erwin Rommel, the Afrika Korps fought a series of ferocious battles in Egypt and Libya as each side pushed the other to breaking point.
Fighting in what was referred to as the last 'Gentleman's War', the German soldier was well respected by those he faced, be they British, Australian, Indian or other nationalities. German tactics in the desert had a profound and deadly effect on how the British armour and infantry formations interacted with one another and these lessons were learnt for the later conflicts in North West Europe.
The Afrika Korps foot troops were more than ably supported by the dreaded '88' (8.8cm Flak) gun as a direct fire weapon and the ubiquitous Panzer IV was developed into what the British troops referred to as the 'Pz IV special' - a tank the British tank commanders learnt to fear and respect in equal measure. Battles at El Alamein, Tobruk and Gazala honed their fighting capability, pushing the British High Command into changes that would bring eventual victory in the desert campaign.
Supplied with a variety of headgear and weapon options Warlord Games' highly detailed and dynamically posed Afrika Korps are ideal for fighting in North Africa as well as into the Tunisian and the Italian campaigns.

This box is a great addition to any German Army, not just DAK. I bought it specifically for the light mortars and it's definitely the cheapest way of bulking out MSU Order Dice in my Rifle Platoons. In fact, I was spoilt for choice with my light weapons and I've made the four light mortars and an anti-tank rifle although I was sorely tempted to make the LMG as it reminds me of the iconic Airfix Afrika Corps.
The sculpts are solid and can be painted in Field Grey if you aren't doing DAK and the head sculpts are great, plenty of goggles and scarves to add variety to poses.
Delivery was excellent, the site suggests waiting for 10 days, mine was delivered in 3 and I was chuffed to get a Grenadier Sprue as a freebie, it lets me play around with cammo schemes, something I'm having difficulties with.
Thank you so much Warlord!
First kit I bought getting into Bolt Action. The sculpts here are fantastic and come with a great variety of equipment/weapons. But where this kit really shines is with the head sculpts. Warlord has modeled some iconic garb for the North African theater, including scarfs and goggles that add a ton of character to each Schutzen you build.
I found this a good kit to help bulk out my forces. There were some nice little optional extras like maps, binoculars etc and it also enables kit bashing with the other kits. Only thing I found a bit odd was given these are soldiers fighting in the African sun, no one had their sleeves rolled up.
