US Marines plastic box set

This box of marines is good. Sculpts are high quality with ample choices for variation, so you can easily make 30 different soldiers.
Details are good, many different heads, several different arm types. Much good equipment, packs, canteens etc. Many nice details, like arms with wristwatch, hands pointing and the like.
It’s also there are bits for building a bazooka team and a sniper.

That being said, one of the six body types is in prone position, and that’s not something I prefer for normal infantry squads. Sure, it makes sense to have the bazooka or sniper prone, but these are special units.

The weapon sprue is very cool but there isn’t enough BARs, only 4 .if each full strength squad can take two, there should have been six. The bipods for the BARs are a pain to glue on.
While there are plenty of SMGs, for the number allowed in squads, there aren’t enough SMG ammo pouches, so if you want total historical accuracy, you can’t.

Finally, I was disappointed there were no decals! Other US boxes have these and NCO chevrons are a pain to paint on ruffled sleeves.

Overall, I’m still well satisfied, and the minis are great fun to paint.

I had first gotten this box as a gift from the friend of mine who got me into this hobby in the first place. This has been years ago now and I have put together my fair share of model kits since then, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is still my favorite to have put together. As a novice I found it easy and intuitive to put together and was able to make most any kind of infantry unit I could have asked for. On top of that, the variety of heads provided a world of personality to the models. If you want any advice from me just be sure to go over your army list and know what units you want and plan how to put them together BEFORE you just cut them out and slap those bad boys together.
