This was one of the most potent Japanese anti-tank gun designs, and when paired with the improved armour allowed the Chi-Nu to fight on roughly equal terms with the M4 Sherman. Although capable, it would never see combat as the entire production run of a little over 150 was retained for the defence of the Japanese Home Islands, waiting for an invasion which never came.
